Agents and Publishers and Twitter, Oh My

Calling all Canadian authors: on Wednesday February 8, 2017, there will be another #CanLitPit Twitter event matching authors with publishers and literary agents who handle a wide range of genres. The fine folks from ECW Press, Turnstone Press, Blue Moon Publishers, and Transatlantic Agency will be among those on the lookout for the next bestseller.

As my super-secret informant tells me,

During the #CanLitPit pitch event, Canadian writers with a completed and polished manuscript can pitch their work to publishers and literary agents through a 140-word tweet, along with target age (i.g. #MG = Middle Grade) and genre hashtags (e.g. #M = Mystery). Participating publishers can easily search Twitter through the associated event hashtags to identify the pitches they’re interested in. If a publisher or literary agent clicks the “heart” (favourite) button on a pitch, the writer should then submit their full manuscript following their submission guidelines.

Participating writers can tweet their pitch(es) up to six (6) times over a twelve (12) hour period (10 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST) on the event date. This limit is in place to avoid spam and to allow participating publishers and literary agents enough time to review the pitches.

To see which publishers and agencies are participating, visit the #CanLitPit event page, and be sure to check back to see who else has joined. Good luck.
